About Artist

About Artist R.T.N. Jothilingam: Artist, Sculptor, Poet, Designer, Teacher, Mentor, and so on. He is currently living in Hosur amidst the beauty of nature’s mountains and thick forest.

R.T.N. Jothilingam was born in Padaiveedu, Thiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu in 1987, India. During his school days, he developed an interest in art by looking at his brother R.T.N. Kumaran’s paintings. At that time, he didn’t realise that his bother will be an inspiration for him to dedicate his life to art. After school, even though his interest was strongly inclined towards art, he pursued BCA, worked for computer centers, engineering companies, decoration event works, and at the same time waiting for the right opportunity to do art.

As time clicked by, he gazed up towards full-time art and pursued BFA and MFA in Government College of Fine Arts in Chennai. He was an outstanding student in his college and participated in many groups and solo shows all over Tamil Nadu & Karnataka, including a group show in Lalit Kala Academy, Chennai. He received 3 times the “Best Student” award in UG and the “Best Creative Composition” award and cash award in PG.

He also conducted many workshops for school students and participated 2 times in State level ART Expo conducted by Tamil Nadu Art & Culture department.

During his college days, Mr. Richard Anbudurai is one of the eminent artists in Tamil Nadu and he owned an art studio. After Jothilingam completed his college with great success, his college master A.P.S. Easterraj who appreciated his paintings, dedication, and interest in art, identified him as an eligible person to learn and work in Richard Anbudurai’s art studio and helped him to join the studio. He worked in the studio for 4 years where he got the opportunity to explore and experiment in art, making sculpture, painting, murals, stained glass painting, Tanjore paintings, and mosaic art, etc.

He was also inspired by great masters like Mr. A.P. Santhanaraj, Mr. KM Adimoolam, Mr. Chandru, Mr. Dhakshnamoorthy, Mr. G.V. Raman, Mr. Richard Anbudurai & Mr. M.F. Hussain.

With the teachings and blessings from all his maters and his brother, he learned art.

The ideas of his paintings are emerged from his native village which is surrounded by beautiful mountains and thick forests. He created many paintings absorbing and reflecting the beauty of the nature and its patterns around him. As a result, we could see many trees and countless leaf patterns in his paintings. The strong lines of his artworks were also derived from children’s drawings. He also did many pen drawings, acrylic canvas paintings, and water color paintings. His paintings mostly have 5 to 6 transparent layers of cool colours. He has done many creative concept paintings also.

Later, the “leaf patterns” in his paintings become his signature & identity of his artworks.
